Usafi Waste managers is garbage collection group that was started in 2003 by a group of 5 young men. Its based in Buru buru estate , Nairobi.

Motivation

Having lived in the estate for several years , they did not appreciate the issue of passing around garbage all over. They therefore decided to start a group that will help in ensuring the clealiness of the estate.

They faced few challenges at the start but decided to start with few homes within, which there after earned them some other people who were willing to allow them collect wastes from their houses. After a short time they managed to get government permit and a van that carried the garbage to the dumping sites. All the residents pay a small fee for this services and disposal bags are supplied to them. The garbage is collected twice every week to ensure better services and accommodate all demands from the residents

Through this initiative the group is able to sustain themselves and keep their estate clean. Through this they are now running a retail shop in their neighbourhood.
